How I Work
I hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Person Centred supervision which was awarded to me by Temenos.
As someone who has received and provided Person Centred counselling and supervision I have seen and experienced the benefits that this way of working can bring.
I believe that by establishing and maintaining a healthy and collaborative relationship where supervisees can experience the core conditions of empathy, genuineness and acceptance, a safe enough space can be created where various issues relating to client work, practice and professional development can be addressed, discussed and explored in a way that is helpful to the supervisee.
My role is to work with what the supervisee brings to supervision, in a non-judgemental way that can help develop their practice and grow as a counsellor. I believe I can provide the appropriate environment where supervisees can discuss any difficulties they may be experiencing, explore alternative approaches, be open to appropriate challenge and highlight what is going well.
Supervision is available face to face and via Skype.
When, Where and Who
Supervision sessions take place at Blayds Yard in central Leeds or at my counselling room located in Stanningley, Leeds.
Blayds Yard is located close to the Cosmopolitan Hotel on Lower Briggate and is a five minute walk from Leeds train station.
The counselling room in Stanningley is located on Stanningley Road close to the fire station. The 72 bus stops directly outside and Bramley train station is a 15 minute walk away.
Appointments are available Monday to Friday between 8.30am - 8.00pm and some Saturday appointments are occasionally available. I provide individual face to face supervision to qualified and trainee counsellors/psychotherapists and also to other practitioners working with children and young people.
A 30 minute session - £25
How can I pay?
All sessions must be paid for fully in cash before the end of each session. If supervision is being paid for by a third party such as an employer or a placement provider it is their responsibility to ensure payment is made.
Do I have to sign anything?
Yes. There is a supervision agreement which makes it safe for us to both work together. We both sign this and each get a copy.
Is parking nearby?
Blayds Yard: Parking is available at Q-Park nearby at Criterion Place.
Stanningley Road: Parking is available outside the property and in the surrounding streets.
Do you offer discounted rates for students?
No. Discounted rates are not available.
Can I attend a free 30 minute introductory session?
Yes. Please contact me to arrange.

"Phil has been my supervisor through my counselling training and subsequent counselling position in further education. Phil is very supportive and professional. I feel that I can be honest about my work and areas that I feel need improvement or exploration without being judged. I leave our sessions feeling like I have moved forward, knowing what my best next step might be. Phil is knowledgeable about the ethical framework and current legal issues and is happy to recommend where I might find information I need/might be relevant to my exploration. I am very happy to recommend him to other people as he has been invaluable to me."
Charlotte Anderton, College Counsellor
"Phil has been a very supportive supervisor. I was extremely nervous to start seeing clients as I am a trainee counsellor but with the help of him I feel so much more confident. He is easy to talk to and very helpful and he also has been very flexible with his schedule. If I ever have issues with an appointment we have booked he will try his best to fit me in at a more convenient time."

My Supervision Experience
Since 2012 I have provided private Person Centred supervision to qualified and trainee counsellors working in settings such schools, colleges, GP surgeries, voluntary sector services, crisis centres and other counselling organisations.
I have significant experience in working with safeguarding issues and supervising counsellors and other practitioners working with children and young people in high risk situations including those involved in child sexual exploitation (CSE), those affected by trauma and those with suicidal thoughts.
