As a practitioner in the field of male sexual violence, exploitation and abuse I draw on personal and professional experiences to work in partnership with various bodies and organisations to help develop their services for boys and men.
I believe that by establishing and maintaining a healthy and professional relationship based on a passion for making a difference, and where professionals are open to potential change and appropriate challenge, positive change that benefits men and boys can occur.
I work with professionals and organisations in a collaborative way to consult with staff and partners, identify specific needs and draft recommendations which are used to create an action plan linked to realistic, achievable and measurable outcomes.
Between 2013 and 2015 I managed a project funded by the Department for Education aimed at improving child sexual exploitation (CSE) services for boys and young men. The project also aimed to increasing the number of males being referred to CSE services for support. The number of boys referred increased from 91 to 249 across twenty local authorities.
CSE services were worked with in a collaborative way to develop and implement new initiatives which made practice and the offered services more accessible to males and more inclusive of males. The project also helped practitioners to adopt a more proactive approach in identifying boys at risk of CSE, challenging sexist and gender biased practice and promoting equality for men and boys.
